My name is Brian and I own a premium custom sofa business called Soft Goods. I got into the furniture business in 2007, when I founded a store called Furniture Envy in San Francisco. We started selling “off the shelf” furniture like most stores, but evolved into specializing in custom sofas, and eventually started our own factory in Los Angeles to produce our own sofas to higher standards than we found other factories were able to.
I operated Furniture Envy for almost 15 years but recently transferred ownership. I took everything I learned from Furniture Envy and started Soft Goods in 2022. I kept my factory in Los Angeles, which sets me apart from other retailers and designers because I am not a middle man. I operate essentially a “factory direct” business. I manufacture sofas exclusively for customers of my San Rafael Design Studio as well as a limited number of high-end retailers who have come to depend on me for their flagship pieces. Owning my own factory gives me full control over build specifications, material selection and allows me to maintain exceptional quality standards.
I have designed, built, and then studied thousands of sofas and sectionals over the last 15 years. My experience working with customers for almost 15 years on the retail side, and also owning and operating a factory on the manufacturing side, gives me unique knowledge and expertise that I believe makes me the best custom sofa designer/builder in the Bay Area.
